Hobby or Obsession?  Tankymotin' Either Way!

Tankymotin' is a phrase we have up around northeast Alabama.  It means, basically, let's fill the tank with gas and go automoting til we drop!

When I go tankymotin', either alone or with my mom, sisters, nephews  or nieces, I go to thrift stores, yard sales, flea markets and Walmart.  Usually, tankymotin' includes eating out as well, somewhere fun and not too healthy, ha.

I've loved treasure hunting this way, as long as I can remember.

I seem to have some kind of radar when it comes to yard sales and thrift stores.  I can walk into a room full of, well, basically junk, and find the one treasure hidden down deep in the mess.

This "hobby" has led to my becoming a sort of "American Picker".  I've sold collectibles on line for years at my Collectibles Yardsale Blog and this year, helped my sister open a bricks and mortar store.  We call ourselves Down South Sisters and we're in Shelby, North Carolina.  Google us and come see us if you're ever in the area!

I don't know exactly what it is about treasure-hunting (some people call it thrifting, or junking, or yardsaling, or picking) that I love ... maybe it's the look on someone's face when I find that one thing they have been looking for and couldn't find.

Anyway, I'll probably keep tankymotin' as long as I have a tank and gas to go in it!  Treasure-hunting is exciting, unpredictable and just plain fun!
