Do you feel lucky?

Remember that old Clint Eastwood movie?

The bad guy is staring down the barrel of a gun and Clint Eastwood's character utters the infamous lines.

Do you feel lucky, punk?

Well, do you?

Go ahead, punk, make my day.

In a way, that's a sort of capsule of how luck and preparation meet at the optimal moment.  The punk in question was not prepared to deal with his reality so his luck ran out.  Clint Eastwood's character, on the other hand, was both prepared and lucky.

He was prepared by his training, all the work he had done to become the cop he was, and the finely tuned sensing skills that had given him the upper hand when a situation came up.

I guess I feel like life is pretty much what you make it and if you prepare for and believe you will catch the punk, you will catch the punk. You'll get the lucky break that leads to that show down moment.

If, on the other hand, you just expect to get lucky by taking what isn't yours or by getting what you want at the expense of others, then life will bring you to that Make my Day moment.
